G&D continues to supply the CharlieCard

MBTS's CharlieCardMassachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has awarded the new contract for the CharlieCard program to Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) in an exclusive multiyear contract for delivery of five million contactless smart cards to MBTA in the next three years. G&D completed the first major milestone of the new contract ahead of schedule. The company has already produced and delivered 500,000 printed and encoded smart cards, this past December 2007. Under the base contract, G&D will deliver an additional 1.5 million cards in 2008 and five million cards over the next three years. G&D produces the CharlieCard in its Twinsburg, Ohio secure card development, production and card activation facility. [end]
