CPI goes green

Thursday, January 3, 2008

CPI Card Group is partnering with NatureWorks LLC to produce specialty cards (gift, phone, key, credit and retail cards) made from NatureWorks biopolymer. This will provide a responsible alternative to traditional plastics, and can often replace PVC for these applications according to CPI. The technology to produce NatureWorks biopolymer allows abundant, annually renewable resources from plants such as ordinary field corn to replace finite ones (petroleum) in everyday products, such as specialty cards. This partnership is in line with CPI’s commitment to green manufacturing, including their recent purchase of 100% wind power for the Colorado plant along with promoting environmentally friendly products. CPI Card Group is also engaging in negotiations with a major new client that is extremely interested in utilizing this renewable polymer.

CPI Card Group Partners With NatureWorks

LITTLETON, Colo., Jan. 3–CPI Card Group is excited to announce that we are working with NatureWorks LLC to produce specialty cards (gift, phone, key, credit and retail cards) made from NatureWorks® biopolymer. This will provide our clients a responsible alternative to traditional plastics, and can often replace PVC for these applications. The technology to produce NatureWorks® biopolymer allows abundant, annually renewable resources from plants such as ordinary field corn to replace finite ones (petroleum) in everyday products, such as specialty cards.

This partnership is in line with our commitment to green manufacturing, including our recent purchase of 100% wind power for our Colorado plant and promoting more environmentally friendly products. CPI is involved with recycling materials used in the manufacturing process, we print with UV inks that are not solvent based, and we predominately use water-based silkscreen inks that do not generate VOCs.

Our new partnership will allow CPI Card Group to expand the services we offer to our clients, and we are in negotiations with a major new client who is extremely interested in utilizing this renewable polymer.
