Industry leader Joe Grillo joins XceedID

Joe Grillo, former CEO of Assa Abloy Global Technologies Division, will join reader manufacturer XceedID’s Board of Directors. “XceedID has the right team with the right products at the right time,” said Mr. Grillo. His role, as described in the press release announcing the position, will be “assisting XceedID with various growth and strategic initiatives.”

Golden, CO – Joe Grillo, longtime industry leader has joined XceedID’s Board of Directors.

Joe Grillo indicated, “XceedID has made its early mark in the contactless card and reader market and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with such a dynamic company. Joe Grillo’s leadership is well known throughout the global security industry. Mr. Grillo’s most recent industry position was as CEO for Assa Abloy Global Technologies Division where he was responsible for approximately $800 million in annual business across three divisions including HID, Hospitality and Identification. Earlier in his career Mr. Grillo held numerous positions with HID, ultimately as President and CEO, building the company’s proximity card and reader business during its highest growth years in the mid ’90s thru early 2000’s. He also previously held the position of President for the Security Industry Assocation.

On Track Innovations has received a U.S. patent for adding contactless capability to existing mobile handsets through contactless SIM technology.

U.S. Patent No. 8,090,407, aka “Contactless Smart SIM,” covers the capabilities necessary to turn existing mobile handsets into NFC-enabled devices through the use of a SIM card and a specifically designed antenna, all while keeping the phone and operating system “fully agnostic,” says OTI.

The program is a venture between the UK government, law enforcement, private enterprise and the public and aims to give free advice to individuals and small businesses to build their awareness and show them the tools for proper Internet safety and security.

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.
