ViVOtech Releases Commercial-Grade NFC Smart Poster Management Software Following Successful Field Trials Across the Globe

Next-Generation NFC Mobile Marketing System Enables Merchants to Drive Customer Traffic Through Personalized and Location-Based Promotions, Incentives

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–Establishing a new standard for consumer-based one-to-one marketing, ViVOtech, the leading provider of Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile promotions & payments software and Contactless terminals is rolling out the commercial release of their ViVOplatform™ Smart Poster Management Software (VpSPm). VpSPm is a one-on-one mobile marketing software system that enables merchants to drive business through the creation, management, and delivery of personalized and context-sensitive information to consumers’ mobile phones. The platform allows businesses to broadcast promotions, products, and make coupons directly available to consumers on their NFC-capable mobile phones through interaction with ‘smart posters.’

“ViVOtech pioneered NFC technologies to help connect merchants with their customers. VpSPm-based NFC smart posters represent this next level of consumer opt-in marketing, delivering a very high touch approach to consumer marketing. By creating technology that completes the entire lifecycle of retail transactions, ViVOtech is enabling merchants and card issuers to quickly and easily deliver personalized and location-based value to their customers. By offering convenience and speed in the check out line, we are driving businesses to increased profitability,” said Michael Mullagh, ViVOtech CEO.

Smart posters are similar to traditional posters or billboards but are logic enabled by having one or more NFC tags mounted on their back side. When an NFC mobile phone is waved directly at a smart poster, the device communicates with the NFC tag to receive a message, connecting to the VpSPm backend system using a wireless data network. Consumers merely wave their NFC phones at smart posters and other NFC-enabled media to download personalized incentives and promotions redeemable at local stores and other participating merchants that have ViVOtech Contactless terminals and readers.

VpSPm has been used together with ViVOtech’s ViVOnfc over-the-air (OTA) provisioning solution and ViVOpay contactless payment readers in over a dozen successful pilot programs around the world with major players that are pioneering the NFC payments and promotions ecosystem.

Some of ViVOtech’s key highlights include:

  • First global pilot of NFC mobile phone promotions/coupons provisioned through smart posters and over-the-air infrastructure, using electronic redemption at Point of Sale in Taiwan in February 2007.
  • Roll out of smart poster-based promotions, coupons and product information during field trials in 2006 & 2007 in Hong Kong, New York, and Singapore markets.

The latest commercial version of the VpSPm allows merchants to personalize offers based on a customer’s profile and purchasing behaviors, to track and accumulate the level of customer usage. This provides merchants and card issuers with unparalleled levels of business intelligence to allow them to deliver the very best in intimacy and value to their customers.
