Ideal for Companies Seeking “Ultimate Migration Tool”

IRVINE, Calif., July 11, 2007 – HID Global, the trusted leader in secure identity, today announced the launch of a new version of the company’s versatile RP40 multiCLASS™ reader. In continued support of the multiCLASS reader line, the RP40 now supports Indala 125 kHz proximity and AWID, in addition to HID proximity.

New enhancements combine 125 kHz proximity and 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and reader technologies into a single reader, providing additional support for users upgrading from the most popular proximity cards to the most popular contactless smart cards. The RP40 provides a clear multi-technology migration path for the large installed bases of Indala and AWID customers.

With multiCLASS, the customer has the ability to transition to contactless smart cards over time while incorporating the use of multiple card technologies within a single building or across multiple facilities. Additionally, customers can transition from disparate proximity technologies to a unified contactless smart card solution from HID, a leading manufacturer in the access control industry.

“The multiCLASS™ reader is the ultimate migration tool. With our unique card technology read selection feature, customers have endless card management flexibility, with security and simplicity,” said Jack Bubany, HID’s pProduct mManager, Reader Products.

The multiCLASS™ reader is available in multiple compatibility configurations, classified as ordering configurations. Additionally, the reader supports HID Prox, Indala Proximity or AWID formats, with additional 125 kHz card technology compatibilities available later this in the year. A keypad model, for dual factor authentication, is also expected.

The RP40 model access control reader has been approved by U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) as Transparent Contactless Readers for their FIPS 201 Approved Products List, allowing an agency’s access control system to function properly during the transition from current card technology to the new FIPS 201 card requirements.
