LEGIC technology powers access control and cashless payment systems at international recreational facilities

Contactless wristbands and cards from LEGIC Identsystems are regulating access to fitness and recreational facilities in Italy and Germany. The waterproof bracelet includes a LEGIC transponder chip that also allows visitors to purchase food, beverages and other services from the resorts.


Chicago, Illinois–LEGIC Identsystems Ltd, the leading supplier of secure, contactless smart card technologies for personal identification such as access control and cashless payment applications, announced that its technology is in place at the international recreation and fitness facilities in Acquarena, Brixen, the fitness and wellness resort in northern Italy, and Tropical Islands in Berlin, Germany, the high-traffic recreation and entertainment resort.

Acquarena Brixen, is located in South Tyrol, the alpine region of Italy, and is an extensive leisure, wellness, and water therapy resort that services over one hundred thousand people per year. The facility has a state-of-the-art ticketing and access control system that is powered by LEGIC smart card technology.

Upon arrival visitors are given a waterproof bracelet that includes the LEGIC transponder chip. This enables visitors to conveniently purchase food and beverages, wellness services, solarium visits and more without having to worry about carrying cash.

The microchip bracelet, developed by LEGIC1s partner n-tree solutions Ticketsysteme GmbH, Austria, can also be used as a key to individual guest lockers and guests can retrieve pertinent data such as the time of stay, personal locker numbers, and reservations for products and services, on special information terminals at any time.

The LEGIC chip stores all cash transactions during a guest1s stay providing completely secure electronic debiting upon departure by readers at the exit barriers.

Furthermore, the technology provides facility operators with online data regarding visitor numbers in order to control capacity. The maximum number of visitors is limited by the availability of lockers.

LEGIC technology is also being used at Tropical Islands, the 24/7 recreation and entertainment complex built within the world’s largest self-supporting building, a former Zeppelin hanger. The facility can hold as many as 7000 people at a given time and the building is so large that the Statue of Liberty could lie within the facility. Visitors are provided with a guest pass powered by LEGIC technology when they enter the resort, which also holds extensive water recreation.

The pass allows for integrated cashless payments at all points of sale such as restaurants and bars, souvenir shops and vending machines and for those visitors choosing to rent lockers, a LEGIC based waterproof wristband is made available to securely lock away personal items.

The wristband functions as a contactless key and is designed with highly secure encryption algorithms to ensure that a locker can be only opened from an individually assigned wristband. When guests are ready to depart, all expenses are automatically billed, including the price of entry.

Keene State College (KSC) is prepping for the launch of a new “one card system” for students entering the fall semester in 2012.

According to student newspaper, The Equinox, the new KSC one card will enable students to access to campus buildings, library privileges, laundry and on-campus vending, and enable cashless payment at certain on-campus restaurants.
