Paypass & ExpressPay updates part of recent contactless payments teleconference

If the purpose of the recent SmartTalk Teleconference hosted by the Smart Card Alliance was to generate enthusiasm and optimism for contactless technology, it certainly succeeded thanks to the latest positive results of contactless trials reported by two of the majors–MasterCard and American Express.

MasterCard has certified a slew of NFC-enabled smart phones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

Newly certified devices include: BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Samsung Galaxy mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250), Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia sola.

MasterCard’s PayPass contactless payment feature may soon be presented to the Azerbaijan market of cashless payments.

According to a recent MasterCard study, 75% of the local residents said they would like to use contactless payment cards in supermarkets and 60% to pay public transport fare. When asked which devices, in addition to a plastic card, it would be convenient to make payments, 86% of respondents said they would like to use their mobile phone.
