INSIDE Contactless chosen to supply contactless cards and readers for the US Navy

Aix-en-Provence, June 23rd 2003- INSIDE Contactless, pioneer in Contactless technology and its market development team, today announced it has been chosen by Beacon Technologies, a leading system integrator, to supply the US Navy a select number of Contactless cards (PicoPass™ ) and readers (HandIT™ , Accesso™ ) in order to increase security while reducing manpower and providing convenience for US Navy members.


As directed by the Chief of Naval Operations, the US Navy has decided to improve security and efficiency at its base perimeters with the SmartGate solution. The purpose of SmartGate is to identify and control base access. Gate controls are equipped with hand held readers used to identify incoming tagged vehicles and cardholders, allowing Force Protection Personnel to validate both the vehicle and the cardholder as they come in and out, enhancing perimeter security.

SmartGate is made up of different elements such as PicoPass™ , long range smart card readers, integrated security management system, HandIT™ with hand held readers mobile sentry software, badging system, vehicle ID readers, gate arm controls, video cameras, digital video recorder and a wireless broadband network.

Blackpool, a seaside town situated along England’s west coast, has installed a number of Parkeon contactless-enabled parking pay stations.

For the installation, Blackpool Council opted for the Parkeon Strada pay station terminal. This new, solar-powered terminal is equipped with contactless card readers, accepting contactless payment-enabled mobile phones and various wave and pay bank cards.

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.
